Yakima Family YMCA’s website was over eight years old with too much content, outdated information, and confusing navigation. The fitness and swimming class schedules were provided in a PDF format, which were hard to read on mobile and not ADA compliant. The overall appearance of the site was messy, clunky, and did not look professional or inviting. Our goal was to create a new website to refresh the YMCA’s web presence with improved functionality, a smoother user experience, and stronger brand identity.
Strategy
We began website development with a site map to identify necessary pages and functions, such as intuitive navigation and a searchable calendar for classes and events. From the sitemap, we laid out the content in a wireframe to ensure the content and pages were easy to navigate before adding design elements. We then designed a prototype incorporating the YMCA’s brand assets, so the client could envision the finished site and identify any changes before the site was coded to conserve costs. Finally, the prototype was coded, tested, and brought to life in the live site!
Goal
To bring more visitors to the site and improve user experience, as well as improve the organization’s online brand identity.
Outcome
The Yakima YMCA saw an increase in users of nearly 20% in the five months following the launch of their new website. In that time, the website had over 190,000 views, with 20,000 views to the new schedule feature.
